Abstract
This community service program aims to improve Islamic calligraphy skills while strengthening religious awareness among the people of Waisakai Village, Mangoli Utara Timur District, Kepulauan Sula Regency, North Maluku Province. The program was motivated by the limited public understanding of Islamic calligraphy and the lack of culturally based religious guidance in rural areas. A participatory-educational approach was employed, consisting of preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. The training activities were conducted through interactive lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on calligraphy practice, involving lecturers and students from STAI Babussalam Sula Maluku Utara. The results indicate a very high level of community enthusiasm, not only among children and youth as the initial target group but also among adults who voluntarily joined the program. Participants demonstrated significant improvement in calligraphy writing skills and increased interest in understanding the meanings of Qur’anic verses. Furthermore, the community proposed organizing an Islamic calligraphy competition as a motivational strategy to enhance creativity, quality, speed, and self-confidence. These findings confirm that Islamic calligraphy training is an effective medium for cultural da’wah and sustainable community empowerment in rural contexts.
